SALEM – Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro participated in the Salem Middle School VIP Pep Rally as the keynote speaker on Oct. 15. The pep rally celebrated the school's educational enrichment program, entitled the "Salem Pride VIP Program."

This two-part program recognizes student successes and emphasizes a school-wide support system that includes proactive strategies for teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviors. The goals are to empower students and educators to reinforce an academic atmosphere resulting in increased performance and achievement, to have students resolve conflicts peacefully and to build a culture of mutual respect and a stronger sense of community.

"The Salem Pride VIP Program exemplifies the ways that education can empower young adults and encourage them to live well and work together," said Taliaferro. "I commend Salem Middle School and the Salem City School District for their commitment to providing their students with the resources to grow and make valuable contributions to society."

"My whole world changed in one moment of one football game during my freshman year at Penn State and the long arduous process of my recovery opened my eyes to just how fortunate I am," added Taliaferro. "In my moments of weakness and doubt, I moved forward and refocused my life on helping and serving others. As you grow and mature as students and citizens, be kind and treat others with respect and you will receive that same goodness in return."
