Donna O'leary appreciates milestone

SALEM — Salem High School field hockey coach Donna O’Leary is in her 25th season roaming the sidelines for the Rams.

She has accomplished a lot in her career, but she entered this season a little more anxious than she has in a long time.

O’Leary started the season with 198 career wins, and just two games in to the young season she has already made history.

Monday night, the Rams defeated Pitman 2-0 to give her 200 wins for her career.

“To be honest with you, the scrimmages we had recently, we didn’t have the intensity (we needed) and I just didn’t know if they were going to hold up,” she said as the emotion started to overtake her after the game. “And they proved me wrong, they played a really nice game (Monday).”

Besides all the wins, O’Leary’s greatest accomplishment is the impact she has had on her players. Plenty of her former players were in attendance on Monday to watch their favorite coach reach the milestone.

And as far as her current players go — they were all just happy to be a part of the big win.
