Salem Rotary fundraiser will benefit John Fenwick School student Mosaic Peace Garden Project

SALEM — The Rotary Club of Salem Sunrise will hold a “Night of Comedy” fundraiser April 12 at the Salem City Café.

The partial proceeds from this event will help to fund the John Fenwick Elementary School Mosaic Peace Garden Project.

“The Mosaic Peace Garden Project is a large scale outdoor Mosaic reflecting Peace in our World,” said Fenwick School Art Teacher Rebekah Cohen.

“The project will involve the 420 children enrolled in the school; some will help with the actual work that includes developing imagery, the making and glazing of tiles, and the actual installation. To support literacy gains many will keep a daily journal to record the art process, reflect on learning, and to express feelings about the project experience.”

When finished the project will beautify the outside main entrance of the school, and give the students a sense of pride and ownership of their school.

Peg Marshall, president of The Rotary Club of Salem Sunrise, explained the purpose of the fundraiser.

“We in Rotary take great pride in assisting our community when possible. The John Fenwick School approached our club and our members felt that it was a very worthwhile project.”

The Night of Comedy includes dinner at the Salem City Café, and a stand-up act performed by renowned comedienne Christine Rich.

“Christine brings a family oriented act of great material, she has performed on Comedy Central, and other venues around the country,” said Jennifer Cascaden, co-chair of the dinner with Earl Gage.

“It will be a great night of fun for a very worthy cause,” Cascaden said.

The Peace Mosaic Project is partially funded through a grant from the Perkins Center for the Arts and Lowes

Ticket costs are $40  and can be obtained from any Rotary Club member.
